The Port of Long Beach set a new monthly freight record, up 10% from the previous record set in April 2021. In addition, China’s shutdowns due to COVID-19 have gradually resumed. The Port of Long Beach is preparing for a possible surge in cargo volumes to keep the supply chain flowing.
“We are working closely with our industry stakeholders to quickly move the cargo off our docks and make room for the next wave of containers,” said Long Beach Harbor Commission President Steven Neal.
However, according to a recent announcement from the Port of Long Beach, there was no mention of the progress of labor negotiations between ILWU dockworkers at the U.S. West Coast port and the Pacific Maritime Association employer, although both sides said they would maintain normal transportation at the terminal during the negotiations until an agreement was reached.
